Because of the value of this item we’ve tried to include a lot of information below. This is the original 1978 comic in excellent condition (we’ve show it to a dealer who thought it looked in excellent condition overall). The only areas that show slight wear is around some edges or corners, but not much (some of this was present when the comic was bought in 1978) while some edges and corners look very good (see photos of corners or zoom in on large photos). The inside last page ie. The inside of the back cover has a very small blemish from the original printing process (above Superman’s bicep in the yellow background area) which has been there since the comic was first bought in 1978 (zoom in on attached photo). All of the other pages are all clean, no creases, no folds, no tears or issues other than normal comic book image or color imperfections/blemishes that occur when the original printing is done. The pages are not pure “snow white” in color, but are an “off white” (I think many comic books start off with pages that are “off-white” in color, and the pages in this comic were never “snow white”), but some of the current color could be due to slight fading, but I’m not sure how much. The colors are still very good… For a good example of the color of the pages see the attached photos which were taken with a flash IPhone, with the comic on a white towel for background. The “off-white” color of the comic pages is uniform (but looks lighter at the bottom of the attached photos and darker at the top of the photos because the IPhone camera and flash were at an angle/closer to the bottom of the pages so lit up more by the flash vs there were also yellow indoor house lights on in the room). Overall in great condition for 40 years old and would look great framed. My wife and I were fortunate to spend much time with Ali and considered him a friend (among his many). As some are aware, Ali’s signature could vary quite a bit depending on time of day (morning vs evening), whether he was taking his medications or not, how tired he was, how rushed he felt like with long lines at a book signing or someone stopping him on the street while he was trying to go someplace vs signing for a family member or friend alone at his home. This comic was signed at his home during one of the times he and his wife Lonnie invited my wife and I to visit (so his signature is more legible than many others, especially after his disease progressed). We have a few photos of him signing somethings for us over the years, but don’t have photos of him signing the comic book so in order to help ensure authenticity we’re including photos with my wife during one of our visits to his gated estate in Michigan and 2 others of her and Ali together. Since this item is very unique, we’re not sure what a reasonable asking price is so we’re starting based on a recommendation of a dealer, but we’ll consider decreasing the asking price over the next several weeks or months if the item doesn’t sell (we’re not in a rush to sell it, but we are downsizing and so eventually want to pass this comic book onto someone who will appreciate it). Thanks for looking and let us know if you have any questions. The item “Signed by Ali Muhammad Ali vs Superman 1978 comic excellent condition” is in sale since Saturday, November 10, 2018. DICK GIORDANO COLLECTION Superman vs Muhammad Ali SIGNED Neal Adams Art Splash

DICK GIORDANO COLLECTION Superman vs Muhammad Ali SIGNED Neal Adams Art Splash
May just be the greatest comicof all time. From the Dick Giordano Collection (personally owned by Giordano himself) this photostat of Neal Adams’ and Dick Giordano’s double-page splash measures approximately 18 by 21 inches and is from the All-New Collectors Edition #C-56. Better known by its popular title, Superman vs. Muhammad Ali , the book was released by DC Comics as an oversized “Treasury” Edition in 1978. With story by Denny O’Neil, pencils by Neal Adams, and inks by Dick Giordano, the book is one of Adams’ more iconic works. As inker, Giordano received many of the original pages from the story. According to Neal Adams, when these were presented to him to autograph, he believes Giordano created photostats from the originals so that, after making the originals available to collectors, he would still have the images of the artwork for his own collection. A great, one-of-a-kind item from Giordano’s personal collection. It includes its original COA from VaultCollectibles. About the Dick Giordano Collection. Saved by Dick Giordano over the course of his fifty-plus year career in the comics industry, the Dick Giordano Collection spans from the beginning of his career in the 1950s into his semiretirement period in the mid 1990s and beyond. It includes various comic books, special projects items, advertisements, book covers, cards, stickers, and more. While the reason Giordano may have kept any given item is now unknown, the comic books themselves (all of which date back to the early days of his career) were specifically used by Giordano as source material and references images for latter works. The Charlton Comics portion of his collection include some books Giordano himself contributed to, either as artist, editor, or inker and the remaining comics – which he did not contribute to – were obtained by Giordano in the early days of his career possibly to examine the styles and methods of other artists as the books including work from such talents as Jack Kirby, Wally Wood, Nick Cardy, John Romita, Sr. They were perhaps even passed around the offices at Charlton Comics by artists working under Giordano during his years there as editor. Each item in the collection comes with its own Certificate of Authenticity, hand-numbered and signed (COA shown is a sample and will actually be hand-signed, numbered, and note the item information). About Dick Giordano (From the VaultCollectibles biography). He is perhaps best known for his work on Batman but his contribution to comics in general cannot be overstated. He began his career at. Iger Studios and soon moved to Charlton Comics (in 1952), where worked his way up to editor, bringing in new talent such as Jim Aparo and Denny ONeil (who he would later bring to DC). In 1968, at the suggestion of Steve Ditko, Irwin Donefeld and Carmine Infantino hired Giordano. One of his first assignments was editing Ditkos creation Hawk & Dove for Showcase #75. He went on to pencil and ink numerous DC characters, including inking Neal Adams’ classic run on Green Lantern/Green Arrow. He left DC for a time, drawing The Deadly Hands of Kung Fu and Dracula for Marvels black & white magazines, co-founded with Neal Adams Continuity Studios, and illustrated several other projects before returning to DC. He was also instrumental in helping to develop DCs popular Vertigo line of books and bringing in such British talent as Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman. After leaving DC in 1993 and continuing on in to the early 2000s Giordano illustrated a graphic adaptation of Modesty Blaise, helped launch Future comics, illustrated several European and Australian comics featuring Lee Falks classic character the Phantom, and completed with writer Roy Thomas their Dracula comic originally began in the 1970s but left unfinished when Marvel canceled their magazine-sized monster comics line. His last published work appeared in, appropriately enough, a DC comic- Johan Hex #51, published in March 2010. Please inquire for full details. We package items extremely securely. This is the 1978 tabloid-sized treasury edition, whose official title is All-New Collectors’ Edition C-56. Cover and interior artwork by the great Neal Adams. Among the 1970s-era celebrities on the wraparound cover of this issue are Michael Jackson; Cher; Donny Osmond; Marie Osmond; Tony Orlando; Wolfman Jack; Frank Sinatra; Ron Howard; Raquel Welch; Wayne Rogers; Liberace; Johnny Carson; Christopher Reeve; Lucille Ball; Sonny Bono; Joe Namath; Andy Warhol; Pele; Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. Ford; Betty Ford; Paul Kirchner, Alfred E. ; Jimmy Carter; Rosalynn Carter; Angelo Dundee; and Don King. This comic is in Fine/Very Fine condition, with no staining, no water damage. Both staples are intact, free from rust, and holding all pages and covers together. Unlike many Treasury-sized comics with cardboard covers, the page quality is very good on both the interior and inside covers: no appreciable tanning or browning around the edges. The primary defect keeping this out of higher grade is a number of color-breaking spine stresses visible on the pictures of the front and back covers. This is an outstanding.
