There is chipping on the edges of the covers. The bottom of the spine has damage. There are some areas of staining inside. The 2 middle sheets (4 pages total) are loose from the staples. The vast majority are either a diversified mix of silver to modern comics or Marvel Comics. It is rare that we stumble on a collection such as this really cool find from the Appalachian mountain region. The original owner bought every Superman & Batman related issue he could find at the same 5 & Dime store from 1955 to 1962. He couldn’t wait to get the new issues that hit the newsstand each week. The collection was put away in the early 1960s once he went away to school. The family recently cleaned out the attic and like a time capsule, the collection remained intact for over 50 years. It is rare to find a collection from the 1950s that is from a single owner. The interior pages are generally white and the covers have beautiful colors and gloss in many cases. The 1953 to 1956 period is considered the DC Scarce period where it is not easy to find quality examples of many issues. This collection begins during that period and ends right after the DC Letterbox 12 cent cover price issues. There are many key issues and classic covers in this collection. Original Comic Book Art (1976) — Page Twenty-Four From the Treasury Size SUPERMAN VS. This original artwork is by Ross Andru and Dick Giordano; this was the first project co-produced by both Marvel and DC. Page measures approximately 9 1/2″ x 13″ and the artwork is very clean. At some point this page was apparently taped to something; there is a tape residue stain on the top and bottom edges. The stain is in the border of the page and does not affect the actual artwork. Artwork from this project is very uncommon in the marketplace these days — this page depicts no superheroes but is a sort of “action” page, with J. Jonah Jameson attacking Peter Parker, and Joe Robertson trying to break things up. Also pictured on this page is Mary Jane Watson. Nice piece of art. 4½ inches tall and 2¾. Inches across his wild and crazy disguise. This little guy is showing off a super piece of driftwood. This is an original and one-of-a-kind carving made from driftwood, naturally smoothed by the sand and sea of the Pacific Northwest Coast. I collect driftwood during and after the winter storms then carve this wood using rotary grinding tools and small knives. I give each of my wood spirits a rustic patina using a stain I create from oil paints then finish up with a polyurethane spray.
