Superman #20 January 1943. Beautiful raw copy, clean and sharp. Pages are bright and colorful. Cover and centerfold attached and tight, spine is tight and flat. Some edgewear to covers, a couple of small chips on the bc. Pages have clean edges, paper is supple. Inside covers are starting to tan. “Marion” signed in ink on the cover, does not affect the cover image. Vendor’s mark “C” in what I think is pencil (but I’m not going to test it) also does not affect cover image. Superman #17 DC 1942 Hitler & Tojo Cover 1st Fortress of Solitude CGC 4.0

This has the famous cover of Superman holding Adolf Hitler and, well. A lot of people assume its Emperor Hirohito, but CGC says its Tojo, which I believe is correct, unless it was supposed to be a Japanes. Tojo was bald, and Hirohito was not. So it must be Tojo, right? Well, its a matter of Earth shattering importance to figure out. In case you’re wondering, the case is in excellent condition. Feel free to make an offer. This was kept in a smoke free, pet free home so there is no problem with mold or odor. The picture with the listing is of the actual items up for sale. Superman #17 DC 1942 WWII Nazi Hitler & Hirohito Cover 1st Fortress of Solitude

Superman #17 from 1942. Beautiful yellow cover with Superman holding Hitler and Hirohito by the scruff of the neck while straddling the world. It’s difficult to estimate how important this cover is and how rare the book is to find. Book is complete with 68 pages and presents well, but has a spine split up to the middle of the book. Cover is still attached at the top staple and the pages and inside covers are very clean and white. That’s very important on a book this age. There’s what looks to be critter chews in the lower left corner and lower right edge of the front cover and there’s a subscription crease through the book as well. Back cover has a little paper loss at the lower spine. If you were grading the book by the page quality, this would be high grade. That said, I’ve never had a book not arrive in the condition sent. CGC Universal Grade [Blue Label]. Third-party graded comic book. General note about Newtons Rings. Encapsulated comic books sometime exhibit a visual distortion, when held at certain angles, of oily rainbow patterns which are named Newtons Rings. These anomalies are not on the book itself, and are just an effect of the cases inner well pressing against the outer capsule. The Newtons Rings can occur in varying degrees from barely noticeable to significantly visible. There is unfortunately very little to be done in terms of re-holdering books which exhibit these rings, as there is no guarantee from the company responsible that the effect will not occur on the re-holdered book to the same degree or more. If this effect is bothersome to you as a collector, we strongly suggest sending a note to the company responsible for encapsulating the books and urging them to rework their holdering processes to cease the occurrence of this effect.
